Bill O’Hanlon, in his book “Write is a Verb” has a rather unusual and helpful writing exercise for those at the beginning of their writing careers:

I’m picking up this writing exercise for myself, because it gives me a picture of where I’d like to be in my writing career a few years from now. As a writer, it also helps me gather courage to put down my dreams on paper, and work towards achieving them.

This book is an excellent resource if you’re blocked as a writer, or are simply having problems getting started.
