How to Turn Your Marvelous Idea Into an Unputdownable Novel

Join us as we explore practical tips and techniques for crafting a page-turner that will captivate readers from beginning to end in our newest workshop

I teach workshops from time to time, so I thought I might as well give you all the details of the next one run by Writer’s Atelier. Spaces fill up fast, so if you like the sound of the class, book your spot now.

I’m pasting the entire text from the site here:

How does one transmute a one-sentence idea into a full-fledged novel? If you’ve never written a novel before, the process might seem downright magical. And even if you have written a novel, you might find yourself deep in the draft of your second book and wondering how you managed the first one!

Join us as we explore practical tips and techniques for crafting a page-turner that will captivate readers from beginning to end in our newest workshop led by acclaimed author Damyanti Biswas!

About the Event

In this dense two-hour workshop, you’ll start with ways to find a premise that sells, create memorable characters, and learn how to draft your novel using either an outline, or without. You’ll find pro tips on writing an evocative setting that pulls the reader in and helps them sink into the world of the story. You’ll also learn how to work with a conflict that lasts, and resultant tension. You’ll understand the importance of picking a point of view character, choosing what person to write in, and the role of using tense in narration.

All of this will be brought to you by an author who has written novels with and without an outline. Her settings have been called atmospheric, and her novels unputdownable. Publisher’s Weekly gave her latest novel a Starred review, calling it an exceptional thriller, and an unforgettable portrait of marginalized people struggling for survival.

She’ll leverage her experience being edited by one of the top US literary agents who is extremely editorial; as well as an in-house editor at Thomas & Mercer who is a master at story and structure, and pass on any effective advice she’s received.

Whether you’ve just begun to write a novel, have started editing it, or have already worked on several drafts, you’ll find nuggets of information you may apply to your novel-writing journey.

How to Join Us

This class will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 7 PM to 9 PM EST over Zoom inside of our online community.

The investment for this class is $50. To better support Writer’s Atelier, we kindly ask all participants to purchase their tickets using their laptop or desktop instead of on their mobile device through the app. Apple and Android take cuts—up to 30%—from sales on mobile devices, so this ensures more of your money goes where you intended to send it in the first place!

Once you have registered, you will automatically have access to the group event for the class as well as access to our free online community (hosted by Mighty Networks). All the information and instructions are inside this event group within the online community. It works very much like a Facebook group. This is also where you will find the Zoom access information for the class (under the Classes/Events tab). We recommend downloading the app and making sure notifications are turned on! Additionally, participants should RSVP to the Zoom event. Doing these two things will ensure you receive a notification 30 minutes before the event. Please also note that we do not offer refunds. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please email our admin: megan@writersatelier.com.

Can’t make it on the day of? Don’t worry—the class will be recorded, and claiming your spot grants you access to the replay.

My crime novel, The Blue Bar is out this year with Thomas & Mercer. Add it to Goodreads or order it to make my day. It is on a Monthly Kindle Deal in the US, so now is a good time to pick a kindle copy if you haven’t already.
