#atozchallenge videos and In Cold Blood

The brainchild of Arlee Bird, at Tossing it Out, the A to Z Writing Challenge basically requires bloggers to put up 26 posts in 26 days based on 26 letters of the alphabet, one post beginning with each letter during the month of April, with Sundays off for good behavior.
There was an A to Z video challenge in the run-up to April, and the shortlisted entries are up for the vote.Go have a look-see and vote your choice.
Besides being under the weather and struggling with the posts for the challenge, I’ve been reading—In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, and loving the brilliance of writing and the chilling beauty of his voice.
They call it a non-fiction novel, the pioneer of the true-crime genre, but to me it is a poetic study in human psychology, which loses none of its objectivity for all its lyricism. I admire the genius of how the story starts, with the short-lived characters of the murder victims—how Capote gives us their last day so we can imagine the characters and empathize with what they went through. The parallel of the story of the murderers, which gives us empathy with and understanding of these warped humans is another bit of writing wizardry. I can quite believe this novel took six years to research and write. I can’t believe I hadn’t read it so far.
Have you read In Cold Blood? What did you think of it?
