Teaser Tuesday: A #Book I #amreading again

Last Tuesday I restarted participating in a bookish meme, in order to share some of my reading with you. I love that I can be alone while I read, but I can talk about the books I’ve read later.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

Here are two teaser sentences from The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy:

According to Esyha, if they’d been born on the bus, they’d have got free bus rides for the rest of their lives. It wasn’t clear where he’d got this information from, or how he knew these things, but for years the twins harbored a faint resentment against their parents for having diddled them out of a lifetime of free bus rides.

This book is so crammed with runaway beautiful sentences, like gemstones in a box,  all gorgeously heaped together in their apparent carelessness. I’m re-reading this because I want to examine how she handled time in the novel, but I keep getting distracted by its enchanting storytelling. Roy won the Booker for this one, and never wrote another novel. I, for one, would queue up for her book if she changes her mind some day.
