Amateur or Professional?

I write for pleasure. I’ve never been paid nor do I expect that to happen. I’m an amateur. If I were to be paid? I’d still like to think of myself as an amateur. The pressure is much less. 🙂
I agree, the pressure is lesser.
I guess I agree. This factor must necessarily come into play. Even if someone loves writing, they wouldn’t write some crappy stuff for some weird website, just because they love to write. A pro would hover, take it up as a job and do it.
Professional writers can be amaetuers but amaetuers can progress to being pros…
Agree, Devesh. We all begin as amateurs.
Irrelevant distinction. Just write.

I think the artist (including writers) has to act like a professional long before they get paid.

I think that’s a fair assessment. However, a writer is still a writer so long as that person is writing!

Not everything is about money. There is such a thing as a professional attitude…and if that happens to lead to monetary reward, that’s even better.

The truly successful writer writes for enjoyment and gets paid for it 🙂 Maybe not enough for a living, but some monetary compensation certainly
